The People of Peru

A three-week journey throughout Peru with my husband and another married couple last year was an incredible and unparalleled adventure. Our travels in this multicultural country awarded us exceptional glimpses into the lives of the marvelous people of Peru.

Lima: The Capital City

Changing of the Dragoon Guard at the Presidential Palace in Lima

With focus and intensity, the military band of the prestigious Dragoon guard company play national songs each day at 1pm in front of the Government Palace in Lima

The Region of Puno: The Uros Islands, Amantaní, and the Island of Taquile

The Region of Arequipa: The Colca Canyon + El Misti

Carlos
Carlos, the fearless four-wheel driver, gave us a ride through the rugged terrain in the National Reserve of Aguada Blanca, just north of Arequipa. He played Gypsy Kings on the return trek.
Our guide, Alfie, who led the way to the top of El Misti
Alfie led the way to the top of El Misti, a 19,000+ active volcano. He set the steady pace for the 2-day climb, cooked us dinner of ramen and tomato sauce, woke us up at 3:30am, and guided us to the breathtaking top.

Gracias a la gente de Perú por compartir una parte de su vida.

A warm welcome: students in Lima stopped us in the Plaza Mayor to ask us questions for an English class assignment.
