Into the Black Forest

Justin and I hosted his parents earlier this month, and they treated us to an excursion into the Black Forest of southern Germany. We rented a car in Zurich and set off for a relaxing afternoon of countryside driving and leisurely exploration. The Rhine Falls (Rheinfall) Europe’s largest waterfall is lodged between the Swiss and…

Oktoberfest Für Alle

After the Mayor of Munich tapped the ceremonial keg and shouted “O’zapft is!” last Saturday, Oktoberfest 2015 officially began. Justin and I let our long-standing curiosity about the beer festival draw us back to Munich for the start of it all. As you may or may not recall, we spent a lot of time in Munich last…

10 Reasons to Love Munich

I had the opportunity to spend five weeks in Munich, Germany over the course of 2014 – three glorious weeks in July and two weeks in the magical month of December. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the city. To honor this love affair, I created a list of ten reasons…

Holy Moments in Munich

Shortly after I passed under the Karlstor, the prosaic medieval gate that leads into Munich’s city center, my senses were bombarded by the trendy merchandise posing provocatively in the windows of retail empires. As much as my inner-diva wanted to reply to their beckoning call with a quick embrace and a credit card swipe, I…

Instagram post 2193140821275243590_1423227381 Holy smokes, y’all... I am still knee deep in my #Nepal memories and going through my photos. I just came across this one and thought to myself: is that real? Did I take that? 🙋🏼‍♀️ The answers are “yes!” and “yes!” ❣️ I’ve pulled a few of my favorites to include in my next #PostcardfromHailey (whose delivery was delayed by Thanksgiving-turkey-induced laziness) 💌 If you still aren’t on the list, sign up now or leave a comment for me to email you directly! 📥 http://eepurl.com/b8oP2b 🙏 Dhanyabad! ❤️ #CreateConnectNepal #Dhaulagiri #AnnapurnaCircuit #Himalaya #Himalayas

Instagram post 2185055413933158577_1423227381 I felt the mountains tremble.
I saw them rise from the mist.
My heart beat wildly.
Joy and awe, all in one. 🤍

Now that I’m back home, I’m beginning to process my journey through Nepal’s Annapurna Mountains. There’s so much to sift through: emotions, experiences, reflections and observations. I’ll be sharing more in the coming days and weeks here. But if you want more, make sure you’re signed up to receive #PostcardsfromHailey 💌

Instagram post 2170115198856635537_1423227381 The Burj Khalifa is the tallest man made structure in the world. And my Airbnb bed had a view of it! (See it dead center?) 🇦🇪 Because I tried to get some decent rest on my Dubai layover, I ended only viewing this massive tower from my bedroom window. I had every intention to stand below it and catch the world-famous fountain light show at night, but in the end, I chose to save that experience for another visit someday. But oh, it was tantalizingly close! 💁🏼‍♀️ Have you ever opted out of seeing a sight on your bucket list when you were so near?
Instagram post 2169848736485018730_1423227381 Dubai has been on my Bucket List for a while, and when I saw that I could have an afternoon and night in this sparkling city on my way to Nepal, I knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. And since jet lag is real, I also knew I couldn’t see it all. 🌍

So, I opted to go on my first Airbnb “Experience” and I booked a tour of Old Dubai, the historic neighborhood by the creek. It was so pristine that I honestly thought it was a fake, a replica of what once was there, because it felt like a section in a Disney park. But nope, these walls housed Emirati families for generations - until the government declared it a cultural heritage zone and paid to relocate everyone in order to better preserve the neighborhood’s integrity. 🇦🇪 My guide Anisa was a real sweetheart and passionate about sharing the history and customs of the United Arab Emirates. I quickly realized my education on the Gulf States is severely lacking, and although I learned a lot in one evening, I only scratched the surface.
I guess I’ll have to go back sometime!
Have you ever traveled somewhere only to realize in the middle of your trip how little you knew about your destination beforehand?
