Travel Product Spotlight: Vaggaro, The Hippest Travel-Friendly Furniture for Tiny Tots

Ever since my #littleAlpenRose was born, I’ve been very interested in products that make parenting life easier. (Because, let’s be honest, it’s no stroll in the park.) And as a mom who loves to travel, I’ve been doing lots of research on items that aid families while on the road, in the air, or just trekking over to grandmother’s house. Before my daughter arrived on the scene, I came across a super sleek baby product that I knew I just wanted to try. Today is my daughter’s six month birthday, and it’s the perfect day to introduce you to that product: Vaggaro.

WHAT IS VAGGARO?
Vaggaro is a Swedish company founded by Anders Grabe and Fredrik Bergling, two dads who set out to create beautifully designed, functional furniture for infants and toddlers. The Vaggaro is a lightweight, portable frame that can fit three different fabric settings: a cozy cradle, a bouncer seat, and a high chair. This multifunctional furniture is great for on-the-go families, as well as those who just want to add a bit of style to their homelife. Let’s take a closer look at each facet of this dynamic travel-friendly product.

THE VAGGARO FRAME
To understand the Vaggaro, you have to know it’s essential piece – the frame. Weighing only 1.6 kg (3.5 lb), the sturdy aluminum stand is a compact piece of equipment. The four legs fold and unfold around the central locking shaft, somewhat like a flower petal or a banana peel.

Although it took me a little while to get the hang of it, with some practice, the frame is an easy device to set up or stow away. Personally, I love how it doesn’t remotely resemble a baby item. No pastel colors or animals decorating this modern looking piece of furniture! For style-conscious parents, the Vaggaro frame is a welcomed alternative to the many baby-gadgets out there.

And for families-on-the-go, the frame’s compact design makes it easy to tote around. The Vaggaro comes with an over-the-shoulder travel bag, allowing you to take your favorite furniture setting anywhere.

THE VAGGARO CRADLE
Somewhat like a ship gliding over smooth waters, your babe is sure to have sweet dreams in this Viking-like vessel. The cradle hooks on to the frame through four simple eyelets, making it a breeze to put together. The cradle comes in black, brown and pink!

When I say that I love my Vaggaro cradle, I mean that I love, love, love my Vaggaro cradle! I’ve used it almost every day of our little girl’s life; it’s been a constant in our home and on our travels. Our baby girl takes naps in her cradle or will have just the best time hanging out in it while I do chores around the house. When we were on the move during our Christmas holidays, having a familiar place for her to lay her head gave her security and the confidence to settle sweetly into snoring.

At first, I was worried about having my child nap on a non-flat surface. But I’ve learned that A) my girl slept great anyway and B) many cultures place their children in hammocks to sleep. The Vaggaro team is developing a flat-board that you can place in the bottom of your cradle if you desire a flatter surface. The cradle is safe for infants and babies who are not able to sit up on their own. I’m going to be very sad the day we grow out of our Vaggaro cradle, because I just love it so.

The accessory that puts Vaggaro on another level of cozy is the ecological sheepskin liner, which fits the cradle and the bouncer seat. Not only does it give your little one something to snuggle into, but it also saves perfectly-good sheepskin from going to waste.

THE BOUNCER SEAT
Unlike other bouncy chairs that are practically on the ground, the Vaggaro frame allows for your child to sit in the bouncer seat at eye level with you – which babies really seem to like. In that regard, the Vaggaro bouncer has a leg up on other baby furniture products (no pun intended).

To be honest, though, I’ve found the bouncer seat a little cumbersome to put together and take apart. The top section hooks on to the frame like the cradle, which is easy and simple, but to secure the bottom section, you have loop thick ropes through the frame and then back through the bouncer. Plus, the adorable wooden buttons are not so easy to fasten. To me, it’s more of a hassle to switch back and forth between the cradle and bouncer, since my daughter preferred the cradle anyway. But… if I had another Vaggaro frame that I could just leave the bouncer seat on and never have to remove it, that would be a different story! I think it’s a great idea, just a little tough for this mom to manage.

THE HIGH CHAIR
Even though my little one and my Vaggaro set have been in the family for a while now, I’ve waited to share this product with you in order to test out the high chair. It hasn’t taken long for us to learn that the high chair may be Vaggaro’s best asset. We already love it!

First of all, the high chair is super easy to put on. That’s a plus. Second, it allows your little person to join you at the table directly, which they consider a plus. Third, it’s the smallest fabric setting of the three, and you can leave it on when you fold the frame to mobilize. Thus, it’s super easy to bring along to your next coffee date or restaurant outing. Another plus. Finally, your child can enjoy this seat for several years – until they weigh 15kg (33 pounds). Major plus.

Although I have loved our Vaggaro cradle, the high chair may become my new favorite piece very soon!

A COMFY, CONVENIENT, & STYLISH TRAVEL SET FOR YOUR LITTLE PERSON
I have to say that the Vaggaro has been such a gift to our family. The cradle has been a safe place for her to rest peacefully – both at home and on the go. When we’ve used it, the bouncer has allowed us to enjoy each other more closely, and we are just starting to benefit from the versatility of the high chair. All in all, I am very pleased with the Vaggaro and I can’t recommend it enough!

Instagram post 2170115198856635537_1423227381 The Burj Khalifa is the tallest man made structure in the world. And my Airbnb bed had a view of it! (See it dead center?) 🇦🇪 Because I tried to get some decent rest on my Dubai layover, I ended only viewing this massive tower from my bedroom window. I had every intention to stand below it and catch the world-famous fountain light show at night, but in the end, I chose to save that experience for another visit someday. But oh, it was tantalizingly close! 💁🏼‍♀️ Have you ever opted out of seeing a sight on your bucket list when you were so near?
Instagram post 2169848736485018730_1423227381 Dubai has been on my Bucket List for a while, and when I saw that I could have an afternoon and night in this sparkling city on my way to Nepal, I knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. And since jet lag is real, I also knew I couldn’t see it all. 🌍

So, I opted to go on my first Airbnb “Experience” and I booked a tour of Old Dubai, the historic neighborhood by the creek. It was so pristine that I honestly thought it was a fake, a replica of what once was there, because it felt like a section in a Disney park. But nope, these walls housed Emirati families for generations - until the government declared it a cultural heritage zone and paid to relocate everyone in order to better preserve the neighborhood’s integrity. 🇦🇪 My guide Anisa was a real sweetheart and passionate about sharing the history and customs of the United Arab Emirates. I quickly realized my education on the Gulf States is severely lacking, and although I learned a lot in one evening, I only scratched the surface.
I guess I’ll have to go back sometime!
Have you ever traveled somewhere only to realize in the middle of your trip how little you knew about your destination beforehand?
